Story

Brian and Fiona came to us all the way from Dan’s stomping ground - New Zealand. They had big plans for the road trip of a lifetime, starting on Vancouver Island and making their way down through the U.S. and back up the east coast of Canada before heading all the way up to Alaska.

A big trip means a lot of time spent in the van, so while they wanted this van to be stylish, it was practicality that was first on their list.

With Alaska in mind, we knew that they were going to be off grid for multiple days at a time. This meant they needed a decent power system to keep everything running smoothly. We fitted “KIWI” with a 170 amp hour lithium battery, 2000 watt inverter, 40 amp DCDC charger, 40 amp solar controller, 200 watts of solar and a shore power hook up. They opted for an indoor shower with a composting toilet, Propex heater for those colder days, passenger swivel seat base with Lagun table, 75L water tanks and a 40L Dometic fridge.

Getting a good nights sleep was something that was important for Fiona & Bryan and being a taller man at 6”3, they wanted a bed that could fit him but were worried about the space they would lose because of this. With this being said, we designed a folding bed system that doubles as a couch back during the day and sits on a sliding drawer at night. This gave them a comfy lounge area to sit, have dinner and do any work necessary, and come night gave them the luxury of a full size bed.
